We hear all the time when trying to develop your skills and career in the corporate world or otherwise that you need to be confident. Not just be confident but you need to exude confidence, it needs to show in your actions, the way you talk and the way you carry yourself in the workplace.
The single most important way that I have found to display this is through eye contact. The eyes are definitely the window to the world – they don’t only let you see what’s happening in the world but they also let the world see and read what’s happening in your head and mind.
Maintaining eye contact is not necessarily the easiest thing to do and is a skill that needs to be learned and practised. If you find it difficult to look people in the eye especially when having a conversation, you come across as not being sincere.
In your workplace, always walk around with your head up and a smile on your face. Confident people are not afraid to look people in the eyes. I’m not talking about staring, but that confident look and ability to keep eye contact without looking ridiculous. If you walk around the office with your head always bent down or looking at the floor, it gives no room for people to even communicate with you.
As you start this week, determine in your mind to have a confident outlook. Give that presentation with confident nods at the listeners, look people in the eye when speaking to them, keep your tone of voice at the appropriate active level. The world is our oyster!!! Have a lovely week 🙂
